I’m a marriage expert....obviously Did you read this and think “why would you even go then”? Know that reaction is fair but then you’re likely a person who is good at setting boundaries and has naturally low people pleasing tendencies/has become good at not exhibiting people pleasing traits. I have so so many people in this community who simply aren’t currently in a place or position to eliminate contact with family they would prefer not to see or feel anxious seeing. Everyone has their own reasons. Having strategies to align with your spouse and get through those gatherings with less conflict between each other WHILE keeping your mental health in tact is the goal. Low contact or no contact isn’t a first choice for anyone or a feasible option at all for some. All of that said, I also want to make sure I’m making my position on this clear which is I personally think if you’re having to use the strategies over and over because you’re dealing with a family member who isn’t receptive to hearing how they’re making you feel when you try to talk to them about it, I think you should protect your peace and reduce the frequency and length of visits with them. People want these things to be black and white when often they’re very grey. 🤍🤍🤍 Tips for seeing family | marriage advice | relatable family
